Sotome Pilgrimage Course

This is a pilgrimage course that takes you through the hidden Christian villages of Ono and Shitsu, which have been designated a World Heritage Site.

The Father de Rotz Memorial Museum and the Former Shitsu Aid Center are located on a steep slope, so you may not be able to see them without the assistance of someone accompanying you.

This church was the setting for Shusaku Endo's novel "Silence." It was completed in 1920 and built by believers who piled up the bricks. It features a simple exterior and an interior with impressive stained glass.

Ohno Church

Built in 1893 by Father de Rotz, it is a traveling church of the Shitsu Church, but is currently only used once a year. It features "De Rotz walls" made of red clay mixed with lime and basalt mined in the surrounding area.

Father de Rotz Memorial Museum

This facility conveys the achievements of Father de Rotz, a French missionary with deep ties to the Sotome area. Built by renovating a sardine net factory that the priest built, it showcases his wide-ranging activities, including medicine, architecture, and industry.
